Fishing in state parks and reservoirs

Find out about freshwater fishing spots, accessibility options, and how to fish responsibly at Massachusetts reservoirs.

Freshwater fishing is a family-friendly activity you can enjoy at many state parks across the Commonwealth. Some are even stocked with trout each year.

The Quabbin and Wachusett reservoirs are popular fishing destinations that have special regulations and seasons. Be sure you know the rules before heading to a reservoir.

Note: Some parks charge for parking. Check the web page of an individual park for a list of fees. If you plan to visit often, consider buying a ParksPass.

Find a fishing spot in state parks, forests, and reservoirs

You can fish in more than 100 state parks. Search to find which ones are near you. Most offer freshwater fishing, although some offer saltwater fishing. And before you head out, make sure you buy a freshwater fishing license.

The Quabbin, Wachusett, and Sudbury reservoirs supply drinking water. Help us preserve these resources by fishing responsibly. Make sure you review their  guidelines before you visit:

Accessible fishing

You can find a variety of accessible fishing spots in Massachusetts State Parks. Accessible fishing spots can be accessible piers, docks, platforms, or natural shorelines. Contact the park for fish stocking and seasonal information.
