Military veterans and their families face personal financial challenges every day. To address these challenges, Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg and the Office of Economic Empowerment (OEE) established Operation Money Wise, a grant opportunity funded through the Division of Banks, for non-profit organizations, public agencies, and Massachusetts institutions of higher education to increase the scope of financial education for military personnel and their families.
This grant empowers organizations to use their knowledge and expertise to offer programs that will best serve their community, such as strategy sessions on basic budgeting, managing debt, preparing for retirement, planning for college, and monetary decision-making.
Programs can vary from intensive one-day seminars to multiple sessions focused on different financial topics in partnership with various local colleges and financial institutions.
Applicants are encouraged to connect their proposed financial education initiative to an existing program with a proven track record of successfully engaging the Military, Veteran, Family, and Survivor Community (MVFSC).
Some examples of such proven programs include, but are not limited to:
- Gold Star Family programming
- National Guard Reintegration Yellow Ribbon Programs
- Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs
