Request for Public Comment: Commonwealths Draft Plan for Health Information Technology
In 2006, Massachusetts began efforts to achieve universal health insurance coverage. Along this path to health care reform, the Commonwealth recognized the critical role Health Information Technology (HIT) plays in supporting this reform. To help advance HIT in Massachusetts, the state legislature passed Chapter 305 in 2008. Chapter 305 created the Massachusetts eHealth Institute (Institute), a division of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, which is overseen by the Health Information Technology Council. The Institute is charged with coordinating the Electronic Health Records initiative and Health Information Exchange technologies in the Commonwealth.
To further these and other Massachusetts HIT initiatives, the eHealth Institute has prepared the Commonwealth's Draft Plan for Health Information Technology, which outlines a vision for development and implementation of HIT programs. This vision is encompassed in four overarching goals, to be met through implementation of a set of strategies outlined in the Institute's plan.
The eHealth Institute is seeking public comment on this draft plan by February 16, 2010. Please access the plan by clicking over to www.maehi.org/HIT/plan.html.
The Massachusetts eHealth Institute very much appreciates and values your input. Thank you in advance for your assistance!
