A New Era of Education Reform


Readiness Project Rollout: June 23-25, 2008

After nearly a year of work undertaken by the Readiness Project – a statewide initiative involving more than 200 educators, business leaders, and community leaders to develop a strategic blueprint for the next phase of education reform in the Commonwealth – a full action agenda will be released on Wednesday, June 25th at the first-ever joint meeting of the state’s education boards: the Board of Early Education and Care, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Board of Higher Education and the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees.

Day Three

Governor talks about education reformOn June 25, 2008, Governor Deval Patrick unveiled the final portions of his Education Action Agenda – the state’s blueprint to move Massachusetts through its next phase in education reform by 2020 – focused on improving access to higher education for all Massachusetts residents, and unleashing innovation to spur long-term system change in the state’s public education system. The announcement, made at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, preceded the historic first-ever joint meeting of the state’s newly formed education boards: the Board of Early Education and Care, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Board of Higher Education and the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees.

Day Two

Governor talks about education reform 
On June 24, 2008, Governor Deval Patrick announced additional features of the Education Action Agenda – the state’s blueprint to move Massachusetts through its next phase in education reform by 2020. “Great schools don’t happen without great teachers,” Governor Patrick said surrounded by business leaders at EMC Corporation in Hopkinton, a global leader of information infrastructure technology and solutions.

Day One

Governor talks about education reformOn June 23, 2008, Governor Deval Patrick visited the Boys and Girls Club in Dorchester today to unveil parts of a long-term plan for education reform, designed to offer a consistently excellent, world-class education for all children in Massachusetts.  Governor Patrick's Education Action Agenda is designed to raise achievement of all students as measured against global benchmarks and to help prepare all students by 2020 to compete successfully in the global economy.
