Military Family Relief Fund
The Military Family Relief Fund is administered by the Friends of National Guard and Reserve Families as a needs based program to assist those families who are suffering a financial hardship due to military deployment.
The Military Family Relief Fund is a result of Welcome Home Bill, which provides that a voluntary check box will appear on the Massachusetts state income tax form to allow taxpayers to donate directly to the Relief Fund. All donations will be administered by the Friends of National Guard and Reserve Families Foundation, which provides need-based grants to members of the Massachusetts Army and Air National Guard, and all Massachusetts residents serving in the U.S. Armed Forces Reserve components, who are experiencing financial hardship due to activation or extended military commitment.
Eligibility is based on approximately a 30% difference between civilian and military pay. Massachusetts residents serving in the U.S. Armed Forces Reserve components who have deployed for at least 30 consecutive days are eligible to apply for a need-based grant up to $1,000. In order to qualify, the financial hardship must be a direct result of activation or extended deployment.
How to apply
Applications are available at the Friends of National Guard and Reserve Families website and can be processed by U.S. mail. Applications can be completed by the deployed solider or the soldier's spouse. The servicemember will be asked to supply both military and civilian pay stubs, and may be asked to supply copies of bills, which will be paid directly from the fund, if possible.
