Note: 527 CMR Changes Effective Jan. 1, 2015
New regulations took effect on January 1, 2015 revising most of 527 CMR. The Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Code is now 527 CMR 1. The new code "adopts, in large part, the National Fire Prevention Association’s (NFPA) Model Fire Code (NFPA-1- 2012 Edition), with Massachusetts amendments." This new code needs to be read in conjunction with the NFPA 2012 Fire Code. The NFPA code is available for free online, although you do have to complete a free registration to read it. To get to the code:
- Go to the NFPA 1- Fire Code
- Select 2012 from the dropdown in the middle of the page.
- Click on Free access to the 2012 edition of NFPA1
- Fill out the registration form or sign in.
