- Dogs are not allowed at Wachusett Reservoir at any time, other than service animals.
How to Participate
- Grab your Passport - Pick up a Park Passport Brochure at any one of the participating locations with a visitor center or print at home using our one-page, print-at-home option. Park Passport Challenge Print at Home
- Visit – Visit as many of the 12 participating locations.
- Find the Stamp Box – Locate the stamp box at each park and use the code to unlock it.
- Stamp your Passport – Mark your adventure by stamping your passport!
- When you are finished collecting stamps – Whether you collect 1 stamp or all 12 in your passport, you are eligible for a prize! Please complete the prize redemption form once you have finished collecting stamps. Limit one submission per person. For every stamp you collect, you will receive a water bottle sticker of that stamp. Participants who collect all 12 stamps will be entered into the grand prize drawing. All prize redemption forms must be submitted by November 1, 2026.
- All prizes will be mailed out after November 1, 2026.
- Share Your Adventure – Capture your journey with a photo and share it on Instagram. Don’t forget to tag us @MassDCR to connect with fellow explorers. (optional)

Get Ready for Your Adventure!
Now that you know how to join in the fun, here is a list of essentials you’ll need for a safe adventure!
- A Fellow Explorer! - It’s much more fun (and a lot safer!) with a buddy by your side.
- Water and Healthy Snacks – Stay energized and hydrated so you can explore for longer!
- Appropriate Clothes/Shoes - Be ready for anything from the beating sun to a muddy path.
- Sunscreen and Bug Spray – Two protective potions to fend off tiny foes and shield you from the mighty forces of the sun!
- Cellphone – A magical communication device for emergencies.
- Whistle – A hero’s signal used to call for help when in danger.
- Map- Make sure you grab a trail map at each location OR visit the parks webpage to download a trail map.
Accessibility
The Park Passport Challenge is designed with accessibility in mind so that everyone can take part in the adventure.
- Stamp Boxes – As part of our commitment to accessibility, all Park Passport stamp boxes are painted yellow for increased visibility and are installed in ways that make them easy to reach and enjoy for visitors of all abilities. They are mounted between 30 and 48 inches from the ground and are placed along Universal Access (UA) trails, following Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines.
- Written Materials – We want every participant to have a clear and enjoyable experience with the Park Passport Challenge. All program materials are designed using accessible formatting, easy-to-read fonts, and high-contrast color choices to support readability for all visitors.
- Adaptive Equipment – Our parks are dedicated to providing accessibility to all on-site recreational activities. Beach wheelchairs, ramps, and other adaptive devices are available at many DCR locations. We recommend calling ahead to ensure the device you or your loved needs will be available during your visit.
- Language Access – DCR is committed to making all of our programs, like the Park Passport Challenge, welcoming and inclusive for everyone. We encourage individuals and families of all backgrounds, languages, cultures, and religions to participate. To support this goal and be representative of the diverse communities we serve across the commonwealth, we are offering all Park Passport Challenge materials in the top 6 languages spoken in Massachusetts.

259 Massapoag Avenue, North Easton
Centered around an impressive historic mansion, Borderland State Park blends wooded trails, open fields, and scenic ponds into a welcoming landscape for outdoor exploration and relaxation.
Suggested Activity: Time your visit for a tour of the historic Ames Mansion to learn about the Ames family and the estate’s fascinating past. Tour schedule is posted on the park’s website. If no tours are available during your visit, borrow some of our disc golf discs available in the Visitor Center and try a round!
Artesani Playground: 1255 Soldiers Field Road, Brighton
Stretching along the scenic banks of the Charles River, The Charles River Reservation is a vibrant urban greenway offering iconic skyline views, open space, and endless opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Suggested Activity: Walk, bike, or scoot along the paved paths of the Charles River Esplanade, where you can enjoy playgrounds, public art, and beautiful river views.
165 North Road, Carlisle
With a unique blend of farmland and forest, Great Brook Farm State Park boasts the only working dairy farm that operates within a state park.
Suggested Activity: Visit the working dairy farm to see cows up close, view the robotic milking process and then treat yourself by purchasing locally sourced ice cream at the Ice Cream Stand. See the park’s website for the barn tour schedule.

Winding through quiet pine and hardwood forest, Harold Parker State Forest offers a peaceful retreat filled with ponds, gentle trails, and classic New England woodland scenery.
Suggested Activity: Pick up a trail map and explore the network of easy hiking trails where families can spot wildlife and enjoy a relaxed forest adventure.

Located in the heart of downtown, Holyoke Heritage State Park connects today’s visitors to the city’s industrial past and vibrant cultural heritage along the historic canal system.
Suggested Activity: Take a short walk along the canal to see the powerful water system that once drove the city's mills.
74 Curzon Mill Road, Newburyport
Tucked along the Merrimack River, Maudslay State Park blends rolling meadows, elegant gardens, and shady woodlands into a peaceful landscape perfect for wandering and discovery.
Suggested Activity: Pack a picnic and relax in the park’s scenic meadows, where you can run and play among the historic landscape features.
Mount Holyoke Range State Park
1500 West Street, Amherst
Stretching along the dramatic ridgeline of Mt. Holyoke Range State Park, this landscape invites you to hike windswept summits, wander through rare habitats, and take in sweeping views of the Connecticut River Valley that have inspired generations.
Suggested Activity: Stop inside the Notch Visitor Center, explore wildlife exhibits and ask Park Staff about suggested hikes. Hike a portion of the New England Trail for big views and plenty of space to rest and explore.
86 Winchendon Road, Baldwinville
Tucked into the quiet woodlands of north-central Massachusetts, Otter River State Forest, the first state forest (1915), offers an outdoor escape with sandy ponds, shady trails, and relaxed, family-friendly camping atmosphere.
Suggested Activity: Make a campsite reservation and camp under the stars at the wooded campground, ideal for roasting marshmallows and enjoying a peaceful night outdoors.
79 Water Street, Plymouth
Set along the historic waterfront in downtown Plymouth, the iconic Pilgrim Memorial State Park brings history to life with harbor views and powerful connections to the story of the Pilgrims’ arrival in 1620.
Suggested Activity: Explore the famous Plymouth Rock, and the many monuments in the historic waterfront in downtown Plymouth and learn about the meanings behind each of these enduring symbols
1041 Cascade Street, Pittsfield
Pittsfield State Forest is part of the Taconic Mtn range. At the top of Berry Mtn, you can drive or hike to a lookout that overlooks NY state where you can view the Catskill Mountains on a clear day. There is also Berry Pond which is the highest natural body of water in Massachusetts.
Suggested Activity: Enjoy camping at one of our 27 campsites with family and friends. Take a hike or mountain bike on one of the several trails offered throughout the 11,000 acre forest.
Purgatory Chasm State Reservation
198 Purgatory Road, Sutton
Carved by ancient glacial forces, Purgatory Chasm State Reservation invites you into a dramatic landscape of towering rock walls, narrow passageways, and cool, shaded trails perfect for exploration.
Suggested Activity: Hike and explore the boulder-filled Purgatory Chasm, where you can scramble through caves and discover unique rock formations like Fat Man’s Misery and The Pulpit.
265-283 Bolyston Street, Clinton
Wachusett Reservoir can hold 65 billion gallons of drinking water when it is full. Forests and shorelines surround the reservoir. These areas show the value of land stewardship. Taking care of these areas supports conservation and helps keep the water clean.
Suggested Activity: Marvel at the engineering of the massive granite dam. Enjoy the scenic views and keep an eye out for bald eagles and common loons in this section of the reservoir. Please note that dogs are not allowed on water supply protection lands.
