You can search for a licensed profession using specific types of information, such as license number, or personal information. To search the license database, enter the appropriate information in any one of the specific fields, then execute the search. The system will display license information on that particular person. Registered Nurse license numbers have the prefix RN and Licensed Practical Nurse license numbers have the prefix LN.
Verification for employment
Employers should be aware that the most accurate licensed nurse verification information is available on the Board's website by searching the license database. Website content is derived directly from the Division's My License Office database and is updated in real time.
Verification to a Board of Nursing located in the United States or its territories
The Nursys verification report is the only form of license verification issued by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing to a board of nursing located in the United States or its territories. Visit Nursys online at http://www.nursys.com to request verification of your Massachusetts license. Once you complete the verification process, your verification report will be made available to the jurisdiction(s) which you have selected. You may contact the Nursys license verification department at (312) 525-3600 or toll free at (866) 819-1700 to answer any questions.
For Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN):
Massachusetts does not issue separate licenses for registered nurses authorized to practice in an advanced role. Visit Nursys online at http://www.nursys.com to request verification of your Registered Nurse license. For verification purposes, licensure and disciplinary information is linked to your Registered Nurse license and is available on Nursys.
If additional information is needed to supplement your Nursys report, submit your request in writing to the Board’s office. Paper forms sent to the Board’s office for this purpose will be returned unprocessed to the sender. Alternatively, the other Board of Nursing can send a Nursys Speed Memo to Massachusetts requesting additional information.
Prescriptive authority is not issued by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. All Board authorized APRNs with prescriptive authority in Massachusetts are registered with the Massachusetts Drug Control Program (DCP). For further information, contact DCP at (617) 983-6700 or visit www.mass.gov/dph/dcp.
If you need written license verification or a certification of standing for a foreign country or an agency other than a state board of nursing, send your request to the Board's office with the required fee. The fee for this service is $15.00 (by personal check or money order made payable to the Commonwealth of MA).
If you are requesting verification for another state board of nursing use the Nursys verification process above.
