In November of 1972, Boston Pre-Release became the first Pre-Release (level 2) facility established in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts . The Correctional reform Act of 1972 made this community reintegrative facility possible.
On October 31, 2003 , Boston Pre-Release Center opened it new doors at 430 Canterbury Street , Roslindale , Massachusetts 02131 .
Boston Pre-Release Center is a 200-bed community based level three/two (3/2) Correctional facility. It is a structured program, which allows gradual transition from prison life to the community by means of reintegration through releases to work, education, and counseling programs. Boston Pre-Release Center's mission is to maintain the safety of the public while providing community based programming dedicated to the successful re-entry of offenders into our community. Boston Pre-Release Center also operates several community work crews utilizing level (3) security inmates. These crews provide services to the local community and State Office buildings. The Department of Correction utilizes inmate work crews in an effort to provide reparation to the community.
Boston Pre-Release Center received its re-accreditation in August 2009 by the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections (ACA). Accreditation represents the satisfactory completion of a rigorous self-evaluation, followed by an outside review by a team of independent auditors. The staff at Boston Pre-Release Center is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence through the utilization of professional correctional standards.
Boston Pre-Release Center 's Health Service Unit is also accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) for its achievement in providing quality health care that meets the Standards for Health Services.
Boston Pre-Release Center is located in Roslindale , Massachusetts and is surrounded by the communities of West Roxbury , Mattapan, Dorchester , Jamaica Plain, Roxbury and Hyde Park.
Its close proximity to public transportation allows access to employment, community support agencies and the above noted program services.
