Sign Up to Volunteer for COASTSWEEP

Volunteer for a local cleanup, organize a cleanup, or sign up for email reminders.

COASTSWEEP is the statewide beach cleanup sponsored by the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM).

Most cleanups are held in September and October, with a few in late August and into November.

Volunteering is easy. You can sign up for a cleanup or organize one of your own.

  • Sign up for a cleanup - A list of available cleanups is posted and updated every week from mid-August into November. See the Cleanup List and contact the cleanup coordinator to sign up. For weekly email reminders that the cleanup list has been updated, send a blank email (completely blank, with no signature line) to join-env-coastsweep-volunteers@listserv.state.ma.us.
  • Organize a cleanup - Cleanup coordinators choose a location and time for a cleanup and organize the volunteers. CZM will provide information and support on how to conduct a successful cleanup. See Information for Cleanup Coordinators for details.

Need more information? See the COASTSWEEP Overview and Index or email your questions to coastsweep@mass.gov. We are happy to help new volunteers! And you can always send a blank email to join-env-coastsweep-volunteers@listserv.state.ma.us to receive reminders when new cleanup lists are posted.
