State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP)

The STIP is a program comprised of all federally-funded surface transportation (roadway and transit) projects statewide.

Overview

The State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) is a list of projects prepared yearly by The Office of Transportation Planning. The list includes projects such as:

  • Bicycle Paths
  • Bridges
  • Roadways
  • Sidewalks
  • Transit Investments

The STIP is a combined effort between MassDOT and many state agencies that work together to design and build highways and transit projects.

STIP for Federal Fiscal Years 2024 - 2028

Statewide Revisions for FFY 2024 - 2028 STIP

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announces the proposed amendment to six Statewide projects on the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for Federal Fiscal Years 2024 to 2028. The changes are to the projects listed below:

  • S12660 - BIL-BFP SYSTEMATIC BRIDGE MAINTENANCE
  • S12787 - Integrated Transportation Management System (ITMS) Software
  • S12838 - Carbon Reduction Program Placeholder
  • S12878 - SPR Work Program - Transportation Pooled Fund
  • S12879 - STATEWIDE- WRONG WAY VEHICLE DETECTION SYSTEM ASSET MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE CONTRACT
  • S12990 - Statewide- Safe Routes To School (SRTS) Education (FFY 2024-2026)

The comment period will begin on Monday, May 6, 2024 and end on Tuesday, May 27, 2024. Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Information

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), signed into federal law on November 15, 2021, authorized $350 billion for highway and $108 billion for public transportation over fiscal years 2022 through 2026 for improvements to roads and bridges, public transportation, rail, and other transportation infrastructure.
