 Find out more about

The Massachusetts Office on Disability (MOD) was created in 1981, by M.G.L. c. 6, sec. 185, as the state advocacy agency that serves people with disabilities of all ages.  MOD's primary mission is to ensure access.

For Example, The Massachusetts Office on Disability (MOD), in partnership with the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency,* is hosting meetings to bring together people with disabilities and local emergency preparedness professionals.  The purpose of the meetings is to explore how to ensure that people with disabilities have the assistance they need in times of emergency.

  • An ice storm leaves the region without electricity.

  • Fire in an industrial plant forces evacuation of surrounding communities.

  • A train jumps the tracks, releasing a cloud of toxic chemicals.

Communities across the Commonwealth are planning for emergency situations like these, some are natural and others are man-made; some require evacuation while others require sheltering at home.  For more information about these meetings, please follow the Emergency Planning Meetings link in the right column.
