Hanson fire investigation

HANSON — A motor vehicle fire claimed one person’s life early this morning, said Hanson Fire Chief Robert J. O’Brien, Hanson Police Chief Michael R. Miksch, State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine, and Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.

The Hanson Fire Department and Hanson Police Department responded to the area of Union Street shortly before 3:00 this morning for a report of a car on fire in the roadway. On arrival, they found a 2012 Chevrolet Impala with the engine compartment fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters extricated an adult male, the sole occupant and apparent operator, and immediately began providing medical assistance.

The man was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct a formal identification procedure and determine the cause and manner of his death.

The origin and cause of the fire are being investigated by the Hanson Fire Department, Hanson Police Department, State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, and State Police assigned to the Plymouth County DA’s office.
