• Welcome to the PSBO

EOPSS established the PSBO to coordinate Commonwealth activities with the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet).  Congress established FirstNet in 2012 to provide emergency responders with a nationwide, high-speed, wireless network dedicated to public safety.  This National Public Safety Broadband Network (NPSBN) will provide prioritized data communications to first responders during emergencies and reliable, secure access every day.

What’s Happening with FirstNet in Massachusetts?

This year promises to be busy times for FirstNet activities in Massachusetts.  Earlier this year, FirstNet announced its selection of a vendor - AT&T - to implement the National Public Safety Broadband Network.  This June, FirstNet will present the PSBO and the Governor's Office with the details of its proposed plan for Massachusetts.  This plan is expected to specify planned coverage, cost, supported devices, timelines, and other information critical to the implementation of the wireless data network here in the Commonwealth.  Initial implementation of the network in Massachusetts could begin as early as the end of this year and is expected to be completed by 2022.  In addition, the PSBO has issued a request for responses pdf format of Massachusetts Issues Opt Out RFR (PSBO, May 2017)
to seek alternative plans, should the Governor decide to implement the NPSBN radio access network using the "opt out" alternative for the national wireless network buildout.   More
