Choosing to Compete in the 21st Century
The Economic Development Plan
The Patrick-Murray Administration has learned that we make the most progress on economic development and job creation issues when business, government and the academic community work on these issues together. The Administration, along with a council of 34 members from the private and public sector, have created an economic development strategy that develops a common agenda for continued progress and involves participation by business, government and the academy both in its creation and in its successful implementation. The plan includes five specific missions, and 55 goals that will help us successfully advance each mission. The five areas of focus are:
- Advance education and workforce development for middle-skill jobs through coordination of education, economic development and workforce development programs
- Support innovation and entrepreneurship
- Support regional development through infrastructure investments and local empowerment
- Increase the ease of doing business
- Address our cost competitiveness

Recently, Governor Patrick announced advancement on one of our goals with the unveiling of the Administration’s regulatory reform effort. As we move forward with that initiative and our other goals, you can find updates on this . To find out more about the plan, read the report.
By committing to the plan, titled “Choosing to Compete in the 21st Century,” as our common agenda, not just for the next three years, but for the years to come, we will greatly improve our Commonwealth as a place to start and grow a business and to create jobs.
