Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners
The Board of Bar Examiners (BBE) is established by G.L. c. 221 §§35 & 36 to evaluate the qualifications of persons seeking admission to the bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The BBE evaluates each bar applicant to determine whether they have the qualifications and acquirements required for admission, and whether they “…(e)mbody that degree of honesty, integrity, and discretion that the public and members of the bench and bar have the right to demand of a lawyer.” Board of Bar Examiners Rule V.
The BBE meets its responsibility to ensure that persons admitted to the Massachusetts bar are fully qualified by education, knowledge, and character and fitness through the administration of the semi-annual Massachusetts bar examination; the evaluation and investigation of credentials of attorneys from other jurisdictions seeking admission on motion to the Massachusetts bar; the evaluation of the educational background of applicants educated in foreign jurisdictions; and the investigation of the character and fitness for admission of all applicants.
The July 2014 Bar Exam:

Application: The Application is available at Bar Exam Application Forms and Filing Instructions . The application period for July 2014 for the Massachusetts Bar Examination has closed.
Applicants who are registered for the July 2014 bar examination were sent two emails, Notice One and Notice Two, in June 2014 to the address indicated on the bar application. These emails include information that must be reviewed by all July 2014 examinees. Notice Two is specific to each applicant. This email contains the final instructions and the applicant seating information for the examination. If Notice Two has not been received, please contact the Board of Bar Examiners at (617)482-4466 immediately.
Application Fee: Application for Admission by Bar Examination: $815.00
Technology Fee: (to use laptop for the essay portion of the exam): $75.00
If applicable COMBINE the filing fee and technology fee into a single payment of $890.00 in the form of a bank check or money order payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Please take notice, all fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

The Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners welcomes inquiries and applications for Admission on Motion from attorney spouses of service members in the United States Uniformed Services. Understanding the unique challenges faced by military spouse attorneys who move frequently in support of the nation’s defense, the Board of Bar Examiners is committed to working with these applicants to accommodate their unique circumstances and to expedite the bar application process to the extent possible when their service brings them to Massachusetts.
