Summer Heat Precautions

photo of the sun
Summer is here, and with it comes hot temperatures and the risk of heat-related health issues, such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. In general, infants and seniors are at greater risk for heat stroke and heat exhaustion. The best way to avoid heat-related illnesses is to stay in an air conditioned environment, make use of fans and avoid being in the sun for any length of time. If you must venture outdoors in very hot weather, make sure you are well-hydrated with water or a sports drink, limit beverages that contain alcohol or caffeine and wear loose fitting clothing. A hat can also offer protection from the sun and of course, don’t forget to wear sunscreen!
