Milton Route 28 Road Diet Pilot

MassDOT conducted a Road Diet Pilot on Route 28 (Randolph Avenue) from Reedsdale Road to Chickatawbut Road in Milton, MA. The goal of the Pilot was to address ongoing public safety concerns along the corridor by reducing speeds and conflicts.

The Pilot reduced the number of travel lanes from four lanes to two, introduced two-way left-turn lanes in dense access areas, and installed painted medians with flex posts where left turns are restricted. The pilot was deemed a success in Spring 2026 and will remain the permanent roadway configuration. The impacts of the pilot on traffic operations and travel times were anticipated and are considered acceptable to achieve the safety goals.
