    The Board of Registration of Cosmetology and Barbering was recently informed that individuals may be impersonating Board inspectors. Board inspectors will present proper state-issued identification when conducting inspections. Report suspected impostors by calling (617) 727-4499 and your local police department.

  • NOTICE: New CORI Policy Applicable to All License Applicants

    Please note that as of October 24, 2016 the Board of Registration of Cosmetology and Barbering will perform Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background checks on ALL applicants for ALL licenses issued by the Board, except those applicants approved by schools to take the licensing examinations and who do not answer affirmatively to question 11 on their application.

  • NOTICE REGARDING MOBILE SERVICES
    Governor Baker signed legislation regarding mobile services on July 8, 2016.  Licensees should not engage in mobile services (i.e. services not in a licensed shop) until authorized by the Board and until the Board finalizes rules and regulations for mobile services.  Until then, only manicuring is authorized as a mobile service, per the Board’s Mobile Manicuring Services Policy No. 2015-02.  The Board will begin to consider rules and regulations for mobile services at its meeting on August 9, 2016.
