SUPREME JUDICIAL COURT MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of the Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) is to promote the rule of law and foster public trust by leading an independent judiciary that assures every person equal access to the fair, timely, and impartial resolution of disputes in courts managed with efficiency and professionalism. The SJC is the highest appellate court in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is comprised of a Chief Justice and six Associate Justices.

RESEARCH AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:

The SJC is seeking an intern to conduct research and assist with development of an interactive workshop about the 1920s Sacco and Vanzetti case for students in grades 5 – 12. The workshop will be an extension of the John Adams Courthouse tour program and its exhibit on the Sacco and Vanzetti case. The workshop’s goals will be to provide students with a deeper understanding of this pivotal case and to explore its relevance today.

This internship opportunity is available to a graduate student majoring in history and/or public history during the summer of 2024. The internship offers an invaluable learning opportunity, which will involve working with the SJC’s Director of Education and Public Programs to identify learning outcomes for the workshop; conduct comprehensive research on the Sacco and Vanzetti case; identify key moments and themes to be explored; determine methods to help achieve the learning outcomes; and work on drafting a companion guide for teachers about the Sacco and Vanzetti case. The student will write a brief reflection paper about the internship experience and discuss their thoughts and ideas during an evaluation session. The internship is unpaid, although some students may be able to obtain funding through their schools or other funding sources.

The SJC is an equal opportunity employer and encourages persons from all backgrounds to apply.
