BOSTONAttorney General Andrea Joy Campbell has awarded more $230,000 in grant funding to 59 organizations across the state to fund summer jobs for young people that are focused on mental health, physical well-being and overall wellness.

This is the ninth year that the AG’s Office is running the Healthy Summer Youth Jobs Grant Program (HSYJ) and the first round of grants announced under AG Campbell. HSYJ enables teens and young people to have a direct impact in their communities by working in jobs that promote good nutrition, healthy living and professional development.

This year’s grants are funded through the Office’s fair labor settlements, including child labor cases, and a pharmaceutical company settlement.

“I am thrilled to continue the Healthy Summer Youth Jobs Program and provide young people across the state with opportunities to engage with their communities and develop new skills,” said AG Campbell. “My team and I are committed to using every tool available to ensure we are helping youth and teens live healthy, thriving and successful lives.”

Examples of jobs funded through this grant program include:

  • Building and maintaining a community garden or urban farm;
  • Addressing food security and wellness needs of low-income communities;
  • Providing educational content on the environment and local natural resources; and
  • Instructing youth on recreational and wellness activities.
