Boston — A registered sex offender has pleaded guilty and was sentenced to prison in connection with possessing child pornography, Attorney General Maura Healey announced today.
Gary Gustavson, age 75, of Boston, pleaded guilty February 11 in Suffolk Superior Court to charges of Possession of Child Pornography, Second Offense (one count). Judge Rosalind Miller sentenced Gustavson to five years in State Prison.
The AG’s Office began investigating Gustavson after receiving a tip in May 2016 indicating a user had uploaded child pornography into an online chat room. Investigators found the upload was tied to an IP address at Gustavson’s residence, and a search warrant executed at his home in March 2017 revealed a laptop and thumb drive with images of child pornography. The defendant was arrested in March 2017, and later charged in Suffolk Superior Court in December 2017.
Gustavson was previously convicted of Possession of Child Pornography in West Roxbury District Court and Suffolk Superior Court.
This matter was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Megan McLaughlin of AG Healey’s Enterprise, Major and Cyber Crimes Division. This case was investigated by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the AG’s Office and investigators from the AG’s Digital Evidence Lab.
