VL 300.9 Other

Click on the case numbers below to access eligibility decisions addressing whether a claimant had good cause attributable to the employer to quit for a reason that is not otherwise listed under this index.

0084 0027 38

0084 0027 38 (Mar. 28, 2025) – The claimant resigned because she believed the CEO’s decisions would be detrimental to both the employer’s and the claimant’s reputation. While her disagreement with his business decisions did not, by itself, constitute good cause attributable to the employer to resign, she also objected to a new requirement that employees use their personal social media to endorse them. Held this job requirement was unreasonable and the claimant resigned for good cause attributable to the employer under G.L. c. 151A, § 25(e)(1). Further efforts to preserve her employment would have been futile, because the employer’s CEO controlled all business decisions, refused to entertain the claimant’s concerns, and instructed all employees who disagreed with his decisions to resign.

0082 0350 21

0082 0350 21 (Feb. 24, 2025) – Board rejected the review examiner’s finding that the employer’s Program Director spread false rumors about the claimant, because the finding was based upon unreliable hearsay. Held the claimant’s resignation due to such rumors did not constitute good cause attributable to the employer to leave. Further, lack of an existing relationship with HR personnel was not a reasonable basis to avoid seeking their assistance, particularly over a problem that the claimant deemed serious enough to leave her job. She is ineligible for benefits pursuant to G.L. c. 151A, § 25(e)(1).

0082 8711 37

0082 8711 37 (Oct. 28, 2024) – The Board rejected as unreasonable the review examiner’s credibility assessment accepting the claimant’s self-serving testimony that the former HR Director had promised her an unconditional $15,000 raise. Although the claimant left because she believed she was entitled to additional compensation, this does not constitute good cause attributable to the employer, and she is ineligible for benefits pursuant to G.L. c. 151A, § 25(e)(1).

0033 5636 47

0033 5636 47 (May 22, 2020) – Store manager, who had been absent for health reasons, resigned for good cause attributable to the employer after her supervisor suggested she step down because she was getting older and her condition would get worse.  Since she could not control her health or age, she could reasonably conclude that attempts to preserve her employment would be futile.

0019 5811 74

0019 5811 74 (Sept. 13, 2017) – Where a supervisor repeatedly asked the claimant to work on Saturdays, even though the employer had granted Saturdays off as a religious accommodation, she had good cause attributable to the employer to resign.
