Design tools and standards

Shared tools and practices that help teams across the Commonwealth design and deliver consistent, accessible, and high quality experiences.

Figma

Figma is the design tool of choice for the Commonwealth because it enables teams across agencies to collaborate in real time, maintain consistency through shared libraries, and design accessible, user-centered digital services together.

Mass Digital manages a centralized Figma Enterprise account that provides shared component libraries and styles for design and development teams building digital experiences for the Commonwealth.

Design Definition of Done

The Design Definition of Done outlines the shared checklist of quality, accessibility, and usability standards that every design must meet before development begins. It helps teams across the Commonwealth deliver consistent, resident-focused digital experiences that are ready for implementation.

Website Domain Policy

The Website Domain Policy explains how the executive branch of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts manages official government website domain names. (Website domain names are also known as web addresses, unique resource locators, or URLs). Specifically, it defines standards and processes relevant to Mass.gov, Massachusetts.gov, Ma.gov, State.ma.us, their subdomains (e.g. example.mass.gov), and any requests for new official government websites.
