Agenda

A vision for the community

Steven A. Florio, the newly appointed Commissioner of the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing will lay out his vision for MCDHH and the important role that the Commission plays for individuals throughout the lifespan.

Everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

Megan Ford from HearSmart Audiology and Lauralyn Chetwynd from Boston Children’s Hospital will answer all of your questions. How do you explain an audiogram using plain language? What are some tips and tricks for keeping hearing aids on? What is the speech banana? Will my child play soccer? Get ready to have these questions and more answered.

Creating welcoming spaces for all

The Discovery Museums and the Peabody Essex Museum will share their experience in making programming accessible to all families. Both venues recognize that providing programming specific for children who are deaf and hard of hearing enhances the experience for all patrons.

Bringing families together

Family TIES provides information and referral services, emotional support and trainings to parents. The shared experience is vital and matches are made to other parents that ‘get it’. Gloria Klaesges from Family TIES will facilitate a training on how to become a volunteer support parent.

Light breakfast and lunch will be provided. RSVP to Sarah.Stone@State.MA.US.

If you are Deaf or hard of hearing, or are a person with a disability who requires accommodation, please contact Sarah Stone at (617) 624-5912 or Sarah.Stone@State.MA.US.
