U.S. Census Awareness Event

Thursday February 13, 2020

Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel, 181 Boston Post Road West, Marlborough, MA 01752

Details:

In partnership with the Massachusetts Office on Disability, Secretary Galvin’s office and the U.S. Census Bureau cordially invite you to a U.S. Census Awareness event.

As mandated by the U.S. Constitution, America gets just one chance each decade to count its population. The 2020 Census will attempt to count every resident in the United States, but the U.S. Census Bureau cannot do it alone. Success of the 2020 Census depends on community involvement at every level. Trusted community leaders and service providers will be vital in helping deliver the message that the 2020 Census is easy, safe, and important. Census data is used to determine the distribution of billions of dollars in federal funds to states, counties and communities. Responding to the census helps communities get their fair share of funding. A complete count in Massachusetts helps ensure that over 23 billion dollars in federal funds per year are distributed to services such as Medicare, Medicaid, and public transportation. With the aid of service providers and leaders in the disability community like yourselves, we can collaborate on best practices to ensure a successful count.

The disability community has historically been harder to count. The purpose of the event is to spread awareness to make sure the disability community is prepared for the upcoming census and ready to respond. Your input and expertise is critical to informing ongoing statewide efforts, and aiding and developing strategies for your local efforts.

Assistant Director for Training & Communications, Moss Lynch, filmed a Public Service Announcement regarding our US Census event, being held in collaboration with the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United States Census Bureau on February 13. Please see below for the video link and the transcription of the audio. Here is the video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIBpSc5xcy8.
