What you need for Apply for a Massachusetts COVID-19 Bonus for Mass National Guard

Eligibility dates: March 10, 2020 to present.

You may be entitled to a $500 Massachusetts COVID-19 bonus (first time/onetime bonus) or a $250 subsequent bonus (for any additional activations during the eligibility dates) from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts if:

  • You were or are a Massachusetts National Guard servicemember
  • You were activated from March 10, 2020 to present

You will need the following documents to apply:

  1. Complete online application
  2. Proof of Service
    • Copy of activation orders, DD214, memorandum, award, etc.
    • Active service shall not include active duty for training, annual tour, or drill weekend.
  3. Submit application & documents

  1. Check the status of your application

    Use the following link to view the status of your application.  

    This will bring you to a list of applications and their current status. To search for your application's status hold down the Ctrl key and press the F key.  In the pop-up window enter your Submission ID to search for your record.  Your Submission ID was provided in the confirmation email you received when you submitted your online application.

  2. 2. Approval/Denial

    You will receive an email when the application is approved or denied.

    The Veterans’ Bonus Division will contact you if they have any questions. You can contact the Veterans’ Bonus Division if you have questions or for a status update. Please email veteransbonus@tre.state.ma.us if you have questions about the application and/or to verify receipt of your application and pertinent materials.

    Please do not submit documents via email since they may contain confidential personal information.

  4. Receive bonus

    Payments take approximately 4-6 weeks to process and deliver, via mailed check. Unfortunately, we do not have direct deposit services available.

  5. Appeal a denial

    You will receive a letter regarding your denied bonus detailing the reason(s) the application was not accepted.

    You are able to appeal the Division’s decision. You must send a written request for an appeal within 60 days from the date of receiving the denial.
