Veterans of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts may be eligible to receive a bonus for their service in the Persian Gulf War. See below for details.
Most people receive their checks 4-6 weeks after submitting their application.

The Details   of Apply for a Persian Gulf War Veterans' Bonus

What you need   for Apply for a Persian Gulf War Veterans' Bonus

To apply for Persian Gulf War Bonus, your active service must fall within the following dates: August 2, 1990 and April 10, 1991

You will need the following documents to apply:

  • Completed Veterans of Older Wars Bonus Application (online or paper) 
  • Documentation showing Massachusetts residency prior to  entering the service if available
  • DD214 longer version showing block 24 (Discharge papers) 

In addition:

  • You must have performed active service for at least 30 days and served within the period of August 2, 1990 to April 10, 1991
  • *Note: “Active Duty for Training” (ADT/ADUTRA) for the National Guard and Reserve personnel does not qualify as active service for the purpose of this bonus. 
  • Your discharge must be under honorable conditions
  • This is a one-time bonus. Contact the Veterans' Bonus Division if you need to confirm whether you were previously awarded the bonus. .

  1. Complete Veterans of Older Wars Application 
  2. Upload copy of your DD214 longer version showing block 24 
  3. Upload document showing that you lived in Massachusetts before entering the military if available 
    1. Accepted documents (high school diploma, w2, lease, etc.) 
    2. If you do not have residency documentation our office can research your residency before entering the military for you 
  4. Submit Application 
  5. Contact the Veterans’ Bonus Division if you have questions or need assistance completing the application.

  1. Complete a Persian Gulf War Veterans' Bonus Application.
  2. Include a copy of your DD214 longer version showing block 24.
  3. Include document showing that you lived in Massachusetts before entering the military if available 
    1. Accepted document (high school diploma, w2, lease, etc.) 
    2. If you do not have residency documentation our office can research your residency before entering the military 
  4. Mail application and documents to:

  1. Questions/Status

    The Veterans’ Bonus Division will contact you if they have any questions. You can contact the Veterans’ Bonus Division if you have questions or for a status update. 

  2. Approval/Denial

    You will receive an email when the application is approved or denied. 

  3. Receive bonus

    Payments take approximately 4–6 weeks to process and deliver, via mailed check. Unfortunately, we do not have direct deposit services available. 

  4. Appeal a denial

    You will receive a letter regarding your denied bonus detailing the reason the application was not accepted.

    You can appeal the Division's decision. You must mail or email a written request for an appeal within 60 days from the date of receiving the denial.

Persian Gulf War Bonus Payment Amount  
Active service for at least 30 days in an area other than the Persian Gulf   $300
Active service in the Persian Gulf area (war zone or contiguous waters) and awarded the Southwest Asia Service Medal (listed on DD214)  $500
