As an employer, it is your responsibility to notify MassHire Rapid Response, local government officials, and employees at least 60 days prior to the mass layoff or plant closing.

Rapid Response services

Once the MassHire Rapid Response Team learns of a potential layoff and confirms the details, they work closely with the business—and union representatives, if applicable—to identify the best course of action. To provide targeted support, the team gathers information on:

  • The anticipated layoff schedule
  • Employer needs and expectations
  • Employee needs and expectations
  • Available resources
  • Time and resource constraints
  • Community factors
  • Workforce demographics, education, skills, and needs
