The Details of How to Update and Correct GIS Data in the MassDEP Site Database
What you need for How to Update and Correct GIS Data in the MassDEP Site Database
Sources of location data for this map include a mix of self-reported locations, coordinates, and address matching based on information provided by PRPs and their LSPs and other sources. Point features in this map should ONLY be considered as an "approximation" or "best estimate" of site locations based on the information available at the time the site was mapped. MassDEP staff have not verified the accuracy and completeness of the information submitted, nor field-verified the point locations.
The MassDEP recognizes that point features are not the ideal spatial model for representing contaminated areas, especially in the case of large sites or if considerable contaminant migration has occurred. Site contamination may extend well away from the point representing a site on this map. However, the spatial representation of sites as point features is currently the only realistic method for generating site data on a statewide scale.
Locational data are updated on a periodic basis, but this map will never be a complete representation of all the M.G.L c.21e disposal sites. The MassDEP has been unable to geo-locate some sites on this map due to inadequate source material. Sites that are not yet reported are not mapped. Please refer to the searchable site list for the most up-to-date list of sites.
