What you need for Sheet Metal Business License Application
Note that all business entities performing sheet metal work in Massachusetts must be licensed by the Board of Examiners of Sheet Metal Workers, including Corporations, Partnerships, LLC’s, LLP’s, etc.
Businesses must be a properly constituted and chartered business organization recognized by the Secretary of the Commonwealth or registered in MA as a Foreign Corporation with the Secretary of State’s Office. In addition:
- All partners in a partnership or LLP shall possess current Master Sheet Metal Worker licenses
- Each corporation must have at least one Master Sheet Metal Worker as a corporate officer
- The corporation shall designate a Master Sheet Metal Worker as its Responsible Craftsman
- Each LLC must designate a Master Sheet Metal Worker as the Manager and Responsible Craftsman
- All principals of the business shall be of good moral character
If the business' designated Master Sheet Metal Worker Corporate Officer or Responsible Craftsman have held any professional licenses/certifications outside of Massachusetts in the United States, or any country or foreign jurisdiction, a certificate of standing from each state or jurisdiction in which they have been licensed/certified must be supplied. The certificate of standing must indicate the status of your license and any disciplinary information.
Documents to Submit
For a Business License, applicants must upload the following to their online application:
- The business’ original Articles of Organization.
- The business’ Certificate of Liability Insurance.
- A notarized CORI Authorization Form for the Master Sheet Metal worker/s related to the business.
For an out-of-state business, applicants must upload the following to their application online:
- Be registered in Massachusetts as a Foreign Corporation with the Secretary of State’s Office and provide this documentation. Note that for all applicants the Master Sheet Metal Worker must be licensed in Massachusetts.
- Submit a Certificate of Good Standing if registered as a business entity in another state.
- The business’ Certificate of Liability Insurance for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- A notarized CORI Authorization Form for the Master Sheet Metal worker/s related to the business.
