This community of practice provides training, support, and networking opportunities for school and district staff who work with state education data.

What is the District Data Leader Network?

This new community of practice is for PreK-12 school and district staff members who use state education data for analysis, charts or presentations — whether or not "data" is in their official title. Members can expand their professional networks, exchange knowledge and resources, and take advantage of trainings, support, and mentoring opportunities.

Purpose and goals

  • Introduce state data resources that can assist in benchmarking, school improvement planning, and strategic planning
  • Provide training and support for data analysis and visualization tools
  • Support data leaders to increase data literacy and data sharing in their districts
  • Engage data leaders in collaborative discussions relevant to their roles within their districts

Potential areas of focus

•    Guidance for using state education data
•    Tools for analyzing and visualizing data
•    Building data visualizations and dashboards
•    Using data to improve teaching and learning
•    Presenting data to school communities

Meetings and membership

Meetings are held via Zoom, with more informal opportunities for networking and support in between. Dates are subject to change.

This group is geared to administrative and teaching staff interested in using state and local data for school improvement, strategic planning, and communication. Staff at Massachusetts public school districts, including charters and collaboratives, are welcome to participate.

Teachers and other student-facing staff looking at individual-level and classroom data for tiered instruction and interventions may find other DESE resources helpful.
