Fifth Board Member Position

The MWRA Employees’ Retirement System is seeking applications for the position of the Fifth Member of the Retirement Board.  In accordance with C. 32, s. 20 (4 7/8D) the Fifth Board Member will be appointed by the other four MWRA Employees’ Retirement Board members for a term not to exceed three years.

MWRA Employees’ Retirement Board members act as fiduciaries on behalf of the MWRA Employees’ Retirement System, and must perform their duties solely in the interests of MWRA employees, retirees and their beneficiaries in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, the rules and regulations promulgated by the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC) and the rules and regulations adopted by the Board as approved by PERAC. The general powers and duties of Board members are described in G.L. C. 32, s. 20(5)(a) and 840 CMR 1.00 to 1.04. 

The Fifth Member may not be an employee, retiree or official of the MWRA.  The Fifth Member serves without compensation, is required to complete eighteen hours of educational training during each three-year term as well as Ethics Commission training, and is required to file an Annual Statement of Financial Interest with PERAC for each year during which the member serves.  The successful candidate must be available to attend Board meetings once a month, generally on the last Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m., as well as additional special meetings as needed.
