Supreme Judicial Court, Office of Education and Public Programs - Education and Public Engagement Internship

Applications for Fall, Spring, and Summer internships will be considered on a rolling basis.

Supreme Judicial Court Mission Statement:

The mission of the Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) is to promote the rule of law and foster public trust by leading an independent judiciary that assures every person equal access to the fair, timely, and impartial resolution of disputes in courts managed with efficiency and professionalism. The SJC is the highest appellate court in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is comprised of a Chief Justice and six Associate Justices.

Education and Public Engagement Internship Description:

The SJC is seeking interns to assist in leading its Courthouse tours, interactive workshops about the 1920s Sacco and Vanzetti case, and mock appeals in the Seven Justice Courtroom. These programs are provided to school groups, colleges, and the public. The goal of the programs is to provide visitors to the John Adams Courthouse with a deeper understanding of the role of the judiciary in Massachusetts, the history of the Supreme Judicial Court, and pivotal cases in the State’s history and their relevance today.

This internship opportunity is available to undergraduate and graduate students majoring in history and/or public history during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. The internship offers an invaluable learning opportunity, which will involve working with the SJC’s Director of Education and Public Programs to co-lead dynamic tours and programs. Interns will receive a tour resource guide and an informational packet on the Sacco and Vanzetti case. They will participate in training and evaluation sessions. Students will write a brief reflection paper about the internship experience and discuss their thoughts and ideas during the final evaluation session. The internship is unpaid, although some students may be able to obtain funding through their schools or other funding sources.

The Supreme Judicial Court is an equal-opportunity employer and encourages persons from all backgrounds to apply.
