The Attorney General’s Office is proud to be the first public agency to sign onto the ABA Well-Being Pledge Campaign, a national effort to challenge the status quo and improve the substance use and mental health landscape of the legal profession.  The Campaign, organized by the ABA’s Working Group to Advance Well-Being in the Legal Profession, is an ongoing effort to ensure the long-term health and well-being of members of the legal profession, to reduce the incidence of problematic substance use and mental health distress, to challenge the stigma surrounding these issues, and to improve the overall well-being of the profession.

The Attorney General’s Office recognizes the unique challenges within the legal community and pledges its support to adopt and prioritize the ABA Well-Being Pledge Campaign’s seven-point framework for building a better future.  Our office-wide Well-Being Committee is working hard to support our employees through a number of initiatives focused on employees’ physical health, mental health, occupational health, and social health.

While we acknowledge that the legal community is making important strides as a profession, stigma still presents as a significant hurdle.  It is our hope that by talking about substance abuse and mental health the same way we talk about physical health and job satisfaction, we can continue to normalize conversations and perceptions around substance abuse and mental health.
