On November 8, 2024, the amended regulations of the Bureau of Pipefitters, Refrigeration Technicians, and Sprinkler Fitters took effect.

Promulgated over a number of years by the Board of Pipefitters, Refrigeration Technicians, and Sprinkler Fitters, the regulations provide an important update that has strong support within these occupations and from members of the public. 

Notable updates include:

  • Updates to defined terms;
  • Clarify references to national codes and standards;
  • Remove barriers to pre-apprentice training in vocational high schools;
  • Update apprentice licensing and renewal requirements;
  • Clarify scope of sprinkler fitting licensure;
  • Streamline requirements for journeyman/technician level pipefitting and refrigeration licenses;
  • Authorize the Bureau to create education frameworks;
  • Clarify process for license denials and discipline; state rules for out of state candidates;
  • State that all education programs must meet current Bureau requirements (no legacy programs)
  • Division of Occupational Licensure
