Boston, MA — Inspector General Jeffrey S. Shapiro today swore in James J. McNeill, Jr., to serve as the Director of Veterans’ Services Oversight Division (VSOD).  IG Shapiro proactively created the VSOD within the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) last year.

McNeill, a retired Chief Master Sergeant (USAF) with 33 years of military service, will have responsibility for oversight of services provided to veterans by the Commonwealth and its municipalities.

“As a U.S. Air Force veteran with direct experience evaluating plans and programs for regulatory compliance and making recommendations to improve efficiency and eliminate waste, James brings direct experience, insight, and ability to this important mission. He is well prepared to develop this key role serving our veterans’ community,” Shapiro said. “As services to the Commonwealth’s veterans expand, the OIG, with James’s leadership, will ensure that public resources earmarked for veterans are accessible to our veterans as envisioned by the Legislature and the Administration.”

McNeill is a Distinguished Graduate of the Noncommissioned Officer Academy at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base in Tennessee.  He is also a graduate of Lesley University and earned a master’s degree in business administration from Grantham University.
