News  OIG Issues 2021 Annual Report for the Internal Special Audit Unit

The Office’s Internal Special Audit Unit (ISAU) issued its Annual Report for 2021. The report includes information on reviews and activities related to transportation spending and operations, including the ISAU's:

  • Continued review of the Merit Rating Board’s operations and funding
  • Review of MassDOT lease agreements with private companies
  • Investigations into alleged time theft by three former police officers for the MBTA Transit Police Department, resulting in charges against all three individuals
  • Review of retirement benefits paid to members of the MBTA Police Association Retirement Plan
  • Trainings for MassDOT and MBTA staff on how to prevent fraud, waste and abuse of public funds
  • Handling of over 250 hotline complaints from the public and employees
