Boston, MA — The Massachusetts Office of the Inspector General today released its annual public healthcare report, An Analysis of Health Safety Net Patients, Providers, and Services. The OIG is required to perform annual reviews of MassHealth and the Health Safety Net to identify vulnerabilities within these public healthcare systems and develop recommendations for improving internal controls and practices to prevent fraud, waste and abuse of public funds.
This year’s report contains demographic and statistical information on Health Safety Net patients, providers, and services rendered from 2019 through 2023. While this data is generally available, it is not organized in meaningful and accessible ways.
Inspector General Jeffrey S. Shapiro encouraged stakeholders to review the report. “The data can serve as a valuable tool as the Commonwealth works to allocate limited resources in ways that provide impact and effectively deliver intended results.”
