Boston, MA — A 44 year-old Plymouth woman received a two year suspended sentence in the House of Correction with 2 years of probation, and was ordered to pay $61,941 in restitution after pleading guilty to charges related to a pandemic unemployment fraud scheme. A restitution hearing is scheduled for July 24, 2024 in Suffolk Superior Court.
On June 26, 2024 Katherine Quigley pleaded guilty to Unemployment Fraud (Four counts), Larceny over $1200 (Four counts), Identity Fraud (Three counts) , and Conspiracy to Commit Larceny (One count) in Suffolk Superior Court. One of her co-defendants, Aaron Fernandes, pleaded guilty in April and was sentenced to six months in the House of Correction. Rebecca Holmes, the other co-defendant is in default and a warrant is out of her arrest.
The three were charged as a result of a joint investigation by the Attorney General’s Office and the Office of the Inspector General, which stemmed from a complaint to the OIG’s Fraud Hotline. The case was prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Insurance and Unemployment Fraud Division.
“I cannot overstate the importance of contacting our hotline to report suspected fraud. This case is a result of a hotline complaint and will result in the recovery of funds intended to help people who suffered a job loss as a result of the pandemic,” Inspector General Jeffrey S. Shapiro said. “I appreciate Attorney General Campbell and her team’s continued commitment to holding those who fraudulently obtained these benefits to account.”
