Sheriff Nicholas Cocchi, President of the Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Association, offers the following statement on behalf of the Massachusetts Sheriffs on the unjust death of Tyre Nichols

“The Massachusetts Sheriffs are deeply saddened and troubled by the atrocious acts of the Memphis Police Department officers that led to the unjust and horrific death of Tyre Nichols. The Massachusetts Sheriffs extend our deepest sympathies to Tyre’s family and friends, and to all those who have been impacted by this tragedy.

The actions of the officers involved in the senseless death of Tyre Nichols have shaken the Massachusetts Sheriffs, our staff and the communities we serve, and we hope that justice is served.

We understand that this incident may further erode trust between law enforcement and the communities we serve. We also understand that rebuilding trust takes time and effort, and we are committed to working with community leaders, organizations, elected leaders and our communities as a whole to ensure incidents like this never happen again.”
