As the colder weather sets in so does the risk of catching influenza. The Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses. A flu vaccination is highly recommended for all individuals six months and older.
GIC members have many options for getting such a vaccination. Flu shots are covered with $0 copayment under the pharmacy benefit under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Members can receive a flu shot at any participating/network pharmacy.
If you are enrolled in Original Medicare (Part A and Part B), your Part B benefits typically cover preventive care such as flu shots at no cost to you. Those with Medicare Part B coverage are eligible for one flu shot during each flu season.
