Boston — The State Treasurer’s Office of Economic Empowerment, in partnership with People’s United Bank, is hosting a financial literacy workshop series in Lynn. The program is geared towards educating older citizens about managing their finances and preventing financial exploitation.

“I am delighted to partner with People’s United Bank on this opportunity for our seniors,” said Treasurer Deborah Goldberg. “Educating older citizens about potential fraud and scams not only keeps this vulnerable population safe but empowers them to make wise fiscal decisions.”

These sessions will cover topics such as fraud and scam prevention, banking, credit, savings, financial recovery, and more. Since the workshops were first launched in 2017, the Office of Economic Empowerment has provided financial education training to over 300 participants in 12 communities.

The series will be offered on Wednesday, March 6th, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chestnut Gardens Community Room of North Shore Elder Services located at 201 Essex Street, Lynn MA, 01902. For questions, to register, or to schedule a workshop please contact Christine Callahan at (617) 367-9333 ext. 613 or email  ccallahan@tre.state.ma.us.

On day one, Treasurer Goldberg created the Office of Economic Empowerment (OEE) with the deliberate goal of implementing a range of economic empowerment initiatives that include closing the gender wage gap, increasing access to financial education, improving college affordability, and investing in STEM careers and education.
