Boston — The State Treasurer’s Office of Economic Empowerment, in partnership with Financial Planners Association of Massachusetts, is hosting a financial literacy workshop series in Halifax. The program is geared towards educating older citizens about managing their finances and preventing financial exploitation.

“I am delighted to partner with Financial Planners Association of Massachusetts on this opportunity for our seniors,” said Treasurer Deborah Goldberg. “Educating older citizens about potential fraud and scams not only keeps this vulnerable population safe but empowers them to make wise fiscal decisions.”

These sessions will cover topics such as fraud and scam prevention. Since the workshops were first launched in 2017, the Office of Economic Empowerment has provided financial education training to over 300 participants in 13 communities.

The workshop will be offered on Wednesday, April 17th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Halifax Council on Aging located at 506 Plymouth Street, Halifax, MA 02338. For questions or to register please contact Christine Callahan at (617) 367-9333 ext. 613 or email ccallahan@tre.state.ma.us.

On day one, Treasurer Goldberg created the Office of Economic Empowerment (OEE) with the deliberate goal of implementing a range of economic empowerment initiatives that include closing the gender wage gap, increasing access to financial education, improving college affordability, and investing in STEM careers and education.
