UMass Dartmouth - School for Marine Science and Technology – New Facility

This new building (called SMAST 2, as it is on a campus with the original SMAST building) will consolidate UMass Dartmouth’s School of Marine Science and Technology faculty and researchers onto a central campus.

This upgrade will provide expanded program growth.  Shared functions including classrooms and community outreach will enhance SMAST’s contribution to regional and local economies.

The project also includes space for the Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) which will enhance existing synergies with SMAST faculty/researchers/students.  A new BacT lab and permitting area will serve the area’s fisherman.

Jointly, this project will provide support to both the New Bedford scalloping industry and international marine industries.

This is a collaborative project between UMass Building Authority and DCAMM. UMBA is managing the design and construction portion of the project. DCAMM completed the building study and is participating in the design and construction.
