Victim service programs

Our Victim Service Unit offers several programs for both victims and offenders to participate in during the aftermath of a crime.

Victim and Offender Dialogue

The Victim and Offender Dialogue program is a voluntary meeting between the offender and victim of a crime, after the offender has been incarcerated. The program allows victims to:

  • Meet with the offender in a safe environment
  • Ask the offender questions about the crime
  • Explain directly to the offender how the offense has affected them

For more information about this program, you can contact our Victim Services Unit at:

Victim Awareness Program

The Victim Awareness Program is a 5 day workshop that inmates attend before their release. The program allows inmates to:

  • Understand how their crime has affected the victim, their loved ones, their community, and themselves
  • Understand the consequences of their actions
  • Recognize how they have victimized other people

The program's goal is to reduce further crime committed by these inmates after they are released.

Victim Services Council

The Victim Services Council:

  • Gives guidance and feedback to our Victim Services Unit
  • Makes sure our department policies are sensitive to victims
  • Reviews any relevant policies on victim services
  • Suggests additional victim services for the future
