About the Massachusetts State Lottery

We ensure the integrity of government operated games of chance and ensure the wellbeing of its players.

The Massachusetts State Lottery was created in 1971 to generate local aid revenue for our 351 cities and towns through state-run games of chance. Since selling our first ticket in March of 1972, the Lottery has returned more than $32 billion in net profit to the Commonwealth. In fiscal year 2022, we returned $1.193 billion in net profit to our 351 cities and towns.
