The Massachusetts State Lottery was created in 1972 to generate local aid revenue for our 351 cities and towns through state-run games of chance. Since its inception, the Lottery has returned more than $26 billion in net profit to the Commonwealth. In 2018, we returned $997 million in net profit to our 351 cities and towns.
