The Massachusetts State Lottery was created in 1972 to generate local aid revenue for our 351 cities and towns through state-run games of chance. Since its inception, the Lottery has returned more than $29 billion in net profit to the Commonwealth.

The Lottery is an essential source of unrestricted local aid for the Commonwealth. In Fiscal year 2021, the Lottery returned $1.112 billion in net profit to the Commonwealth to support all 351 cities and towns.
