The Appeals Unit researches briefs and argues matters before the Massachusetts Appeals Court and Supreme Judicial Court when a defendant appeals a conviction after trial. The Unit also litigates post-conviction motions filed by defendants seeking new trials and reviews pre-trial orders of the District and Superior courts for potential appellate review filed by the District Attorney. In addition to these duties, the Unit responds to requests for public records possessed by the District Attorney.
