Overview   of Fall River - Informational Meeting #1 - Davol St/Route 79 Reconstruction Project

A Public Informational Meeting will be hosted by MassDOT at the Fall River Heritage State Park Visitor’s Center to provide plans and information about the preliminary redesign of the Route 79/Davol Street Corridor in Fall River, MA. The meeting will be conducted as an open house in which participants are invited to join at any time during the morning or evening session.

Purpose:

The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the preliminary redesign of the Route 79/Davol Street Corridor between Cedar Street and the new Veteran’s Memorial Bridge. All views and comments submitted in response to the session will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

The project is intended to increase connectivity, improve safety, and promote economic development. The preliminary design will lower Route 79 and replace it with boulevard with bicycle and pedestrian accommodations. The design also frees up multiple parcels for potential future development. This project seeks to balance transportation needs – meet the needs of local and regional residents – while supporting economic development opportunities. This project will produce 25% design plans by the end of 2021 that can be carried forward into project development, and is intended to benefit motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, transit, and access to the new South Coast Rail service. The preliminary design that will be presented was developed over the past three years in cooperation with a group of local stakeholders, a Working Group, and in conjunction with substantial analysis of current and projected traffic, economic development opportunities and community aspirations.
